I think the belief by the powerful that "people will put up with many things if you are excellent at math" is incredibly revealing in terms of understanding How We Got Here

I have come to believe this as well. The list is too strange. I don’t think a majority wanted to cave, but many more than the 8.

Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

This is not a deal — it's an empty promise. Trump and his Republican Congress are making healthcare more expensive for the middle class and ending it for working families. Time for Democrats to stand tall for affordable healthcare.

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.

After this latest round of elections, if they cave, we can probably look forward to GOP control for the foreseeable future because a lot of the left is just going to say “fuck it.”

I’ve had two raccoons and a skunk coming by at night - always together, like some weird children’s book. So I moved the outside cat food higher up to try and make my porch less attractive. Now the raccoons are eating and the skunk can’t and I feel like a dick.

"Israel attacked first." This admission undercuts the Trump administration's collective self-defense justification for joining Israel's military campaign against Iran over the summer.

I know this isn't getting as much attention as the other races, but so glad that Colorado voted in favor of Prop MM, which increases state income taxes on people earning more than 300K to help give breakfast and lunch to certain public school students, with additional funds going to SNAP.

This is why Chuck has NO REASON to come back to the table. Let them twist. If you're coming back with wins this big during a shutdown, the people know where their bread is buttered. Don't throw them a lifeline. These aren't tiny margin wins. They're blowouts.

I was pretty skeptical of an American Pope but honestly so far I like this guy. He doesn’t mince words or try to play nice when he shouldn’t and he’s clear on the actual teachings of the Bible, which is what people need to hear right now when American “Christians” get it all wrong.
