100% agree. (It's all l dumb economics, be the problem is if you pay a lot in advance and need to put $32+ on each copy to even start to recoup, you need to make sure that book is 250+ pages in hardcover, which means, stretched text, big leading btw lines, groundwood paper [lots of air in it])

I can defend very little about South Carolina except the first few weeks of spring, where it's warm but not yet humid and every ditch and roadside tree is covered in wisteria. It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

Great thread. I can't engage with platner stuff online bc I grew up in Maine and the politics are so much more complex than outsiders, who only want to talk about the tattoo, can understand.

I also understand that some communities of color in Maine — the whitest state in the country — have refused to give up on him and I think their position in relation to him matters and tells everyone else something about their political situation and what feels urgent to them

Social media created this nonsense idea that not exposing yourself to hatred is isolationist. Choosing to not spend your free time with bigots isn’t living in a bubble. I don’t need to know what’s going on at X. I won’t be smarter or more knowledgeable or empathic by being there. Neither will you.

We're really through the looking glass feeling here involves him not asking for congressional approval OR really providing a single reason for this action. So now he can do anything he wants.
