The Qallupilluit are creatures from Inuit mythology that dwell near ice floes and steal children who wander too close to the water. Depending on the story, they might emit a shrill and paralyzing sound or a hypnotic ethereal hum. They might eat the stolen children or slowly absorb their youth.

This is Polly Drinkwater, a character I’m playing in a D&D game. She grew up in the Mahogany Swamps on a struggling snake farm. Her snake hair can produce poisonous gas and she recently learned she can can peel the skin off her body to transform into a cow-sized tarantula.

The Yuki-onna is a yōkai from Japanese folklore. She could be a vengeful ghost of a woman who died in the snow or during childbirth, or a princess of the moon who hitched a ride to our world on a snowstorm because she was bored and now she’s trapped here, or perhaps she is simply winter personified.
