I serve on NIH study section, spending considerable effort sharing my expertise on the most meritorious research proposals. I use my knowledge judge significance, innovation, feasibility, methods. The OMB rule change would enable that expertise to be completely disregarded in funding decisions.

I strongly oppose the OMB rule change. I do not believe in political interference in NIH funding and award decisions. We all benefit from the very best science getting funded. To be clear, I oppose the harmful changes being proposed by Vought and Trump. I won't be silent or self-censor.

I have just emailed Dr. Bhattacharya ([email protected]) to express my opinion: t he should be deeply ashamed to have stopped the CDC publication that COVID vaccines are safe & effective. I asked him to publish the report with an apology and statement that the findings are correct.

Bhattacharya is an embarrassment. He is not fit to lead NIH.

There is a distinct possibility that this continuation will be made permanent. This effectively triages 2/3 of the applications submitted, because the selection of the “conpetitive ND” apps for funding is vanishingly rare (so far). Scientists need to make some noise!!!
