Recently I learned that civil servants have the First Amendment-protected right to speak out on matters of public concern. Thurgood Marshall, in an 8-1 SCOTUS decision, noted that government employees know how the gov’t works, and the public has a special interest in hearing from them.

NEW: Some thoughts from inside a few federal agencies as the shutdown approaches. Fed employees don't know much about what's going on and want the fight that Dem leadership generally has not shown.

The Courts will not save us. The district courts have ruled judiciously, but a SCOTUS pocketed by Trump has repeatedly overturned them. We civil servants are doing our best to deliver on our missions - but we are under resourced and subject to retaliation. Congress: the American people need you.
