Capitalism has conditioned all of us to respond to stress and collective trauma with purchases, shopping, overusing credit, etc. Let us embody socialist responses to trauma: speak with friends or family, sharing meals, improve your health if possible, and seek community healing and companionship.

My grandparents organized with the Nation & Panthers. My grandparents also fought off the Klan. They always had a gun in the house, a motorcycle or car, a lunch packed, checks on hand, and a few numbers in their phone books. At some point, you have to stop planning and get your things together.

I don't post anything serious on public social media anymore. Let us learn all the lessons from Twitter. As Black americans, let us return to the ancestors' tactics - gathering in the garden, the living room, the kitchen, the community center, the block party. This is where organizing starts.
