Happy Summer solstice. This is a pinhole camera 6 month exposure photo I took from Winter solstice 2024 (bottom line of the photo) to Summer solstice 2025 (top line of the photo). The lines are the Sun as it appears to move across the sky and gets higher and higher until we get to Summer solstice.

When you see the story about how the world now has its first trillionaire, and when you see the story about how laboratories in Congo have run out of supplies to test for Ebola, it is important to understand that in many ways these are the same story.

Beautiful piece by Awais. Money quote below. My one concern is that many psychiatrists do not in fact mean what Awais means when they say "you have ADHD". They mean it in exactly the same way one says "you have liver cancer". And it's very harmful for mental health science and practice.

Spent an hour today trying videocall apps and vpns to reach my mum in moscow. They are either blocked, or work but drain her mobile data - and I can't help because no money transfer platforms work either. Got there in the end, but left with a knot in my stomach: will this work next week? next month?
