The lies are on a fantastical scale. Trump agreed with Stephen Miller that immigrants had stolen the equivalent of the national debt. He also repeated the false claim that Somalians had stolen $19 billion in Minnesota. The lies do have a purpose which is to shut down access to safety net programs.
