The point of taking teenagers offline and forcing you to prove your personal identity has nothing to do with protecting teens. To the people passing the laws, parental abuse is condoned because teens are property of their fathers and they believe being LGBTQ is the product of "social contagion".

Today at our Public Health Safety & Equity committee at 1:30 PM we have a public hearing on our bathhouse regulations ordinance. These ordinance changes are technical amendments that will end legalized homophobia that was codified when the ban was passed into law.

Very very happy that people are talking about this now. The whole thing is an op by Jon Haidt and his funders from 2024. Not sure why, it's concealed under "don't want our kids to grow up as snowflakes" but it's pretty clearly to isolate them from LGTBQ online culture.

queerness in general is a problem for them because it is a challenge to their authority on who gets to make choices about sex (them, their friends) and who is an object who does not get to make sexual choices (women, children, trans people, etc)

moreover, it's not always an issue that they "don't care" about the danger. in many cases it's an issue of "i want to be able to abuse my kid without them knowing it's abuse." to preserve "childhood innocence" by denying them any opportunity to learn and grow so that they are easier to oppress.

Literally there are conversion therapy manuals that start with isolating your child from all potential sources of safeguarding and supportive information and cutting them off from unmonitored internet access so they can find the number for ChildLine while you're not watching is right up there.

Something important to remember about ideas: Sometimes people are just fucking liars

For many young LGBTQ+ people online communities are their escape from those in their lives who do not accept who they are. Cutting them off from those communities is often the first step of concerted attempts to inflict conversion practices upon them. A ban makes that step much easier.

If people actually cared about kids internet safety there would be courses on it in schools similarly to how we had "computer class" that taught basic internet safety in the mid-aughts instead of the sweeping anti-LGBTQIA+ fueled bans that cause more harm than good we're seeing today.

It's one of the most repeated concerns about "for the children" internet safety initiatives, like lots of puritanical drives, it makes the lgbtq among them less safe/free as collateral damage.

It's telling that the go-to gotcha for surveillance advocates is "so what you're saying is that you're a pedophile". It's so transparent at this point, how can anyone fall for it?

Also important to remember that most anti-LGBTQ and "anti-woke" campaigners are also just straight up child molesters

Queer people are just the tip of the spear when it comes to limiting sexual education. The real objection conservative activists and parents have is to consent-based sexual ethics. They don't want kids to think their bodies belong to them, or for them to be empowered to understand and report abuse.

They don’t want kids online because online is where kids discover other people like them and hope for a future where they get to be themselves and be loved.
