Or they point out that there are applications for LLMs - crunching data, for example - that are genuinely useful and were being implemented successfully and ethically before this whole thing started and stole all the funding away.

Also, as a kind of extension of this sentiment: people sometimes get a bit shirty when you slag off "AI" and say there is no ethical use case for the technology, because of course the term has been co-opted by the marketers of genAI and other LLM-related products.
