When students don’t grasp something, we often assume it’s about effort, ability, or attention. But in many cases, the real issue is our instruction. If a process can be interpreted in multiple ways, students will interpret it differently, and some of those interpretations will be wrong by chance.

Pity the poor teacher, because students characteristics are not significant than teachers or schools This is almost certainly true in general, but equally we have the proof points to know that it’s not true that teachers cannot make a substantial difference to outcomes.

“It feels like magic. Feels like there’s this button you pressed, and suddenly all the kids are getting everything right.” Six teachers from three schools just got together for a first of its kind cross-network discussion about implementing Unstoppable Learning.

I’m a huge user of the current generation of AI. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini 2.5 Pro are mainly in the mix right now. I built a prototype app earlier in the year that can use any of these three to inform instructional design.

This is the thing that’s been on my mind for 11 years now. @douglemov.bsky.social's work transformed most of my teaching practice and classroom interactions, but the one thing it never helped me with was ‘how to teach…’ anything, in maths. Valuable. Necessary. But not sufficient.
