Genuinely something useful that companies could do would be to provide raw data, and charts from that data they produce, as open source for educational materials. I tried to ask companies for this data ~5 years ago, zero replies #maths

Investigating odd and even numbers.

This is such a retrograde step. With all the gaming of the past, and the dearth of arts and languages at GCSE and A Level, why can people not see the net effect will be less maths overall, as fewer students do the double subject. It's not a linked-pair pilot!

another thing on this - "the qualification taken by all would cover maths and data skills" fwiw whilst I see the value of dataskills teaching them as an abstract concept in maths doesnt have as much value (in my opinion) as making them an examinable skill in the other subjects in the curriculum

solving a quadratic equation is fun doing algebra in general is fun working with surds and remembering "oh yeahhh, I can treat the number 5 as root5 x root5 and solve this" is fun it is the same fun as logic puzzles and sudoku. if you like that, you would like this.

heard a story yday where a trainee teacher tried to teach KFC to a class and the class shouted them down saying it wasnt maths and the classes actual teacher said the class was right and the trainee is really grudgeful about the whole thing now.

looking back at the pandemic, we had two pre-school age children at the time, and it was remarkable that within a week of isolation starting their noses didn't permanently run anymore... the snot just disappeared

I see this all the time with maths. People who were naturally good at school maths often fall over completely at university because they don’t know how to make sense of things that are difficult to them.
