This is one of the reasons the “Covid is just a flu” narrative always bothered me. It minimized the risk of COVID while also downplaying the severity of the flu. The flu is not a joke. It can & does kill. It can & does disable. Please get vaccinated. A well fitted mask like an N95 helps too!

A Hampton Inn in Asheville just canceled my family's reservation because our address (incorrectly) showed Asheville—and the hotel bars locals within 50 miles. When I asked why, they said, "because of our homeless population," adding that most hotels here have similar policies. This is outrageous.

This is so bananas. Aside from the obvious prejudice, things like pipes bursting or house fires happen! Locals need immediate temporary housing for all sorts of reasons, and not everyone lives near reliable family or a support network!

At the rest of making a dad joke, I've found masking as an issue to be a major masks off moment for a lot of people. If seeing masks bother them because it makes them think of COVID, and their reaction is being mad at YOU over that, then they're mad at you for disrupting their denial of reality.
