Maybe this hasn’t sunk in for anyone who should care but the NHS was birthed when the UK *literally had negative money*. The USA had razed us of every penny to pay for weapons to defend ourselves against Germany, Germany had bombed all our industrial sites. We still did it in 6 months. 6.

Like, kink safety stuff was always wrapped up with abuse prevention stuff as Mal describes. The idea that informed people with access to support are harder to hurt. And it is no fucking coincidence that wider acceptance of kink practice dropped that part like a sack of boiled shit.

One of my favourite tomato varieties is Margaret Curtain, a variety developed here in New Zealand. No idea if there's really a connection but that's also the name of one of our campaigners for women's suffrage so I like to think its a feminist tomato.

The Black Republican Cherry. It & Bing Cherry originated at Lewelling Brothers (Abolitionists unlike most of 1860s Oregon!) orchards. I live on part of the former orchards. Bing Cherry named for orchard-keeper Ah Bing, later denied reentry to US w. Chinese Exclusion Act.

You speak up on some fairly bleak and hopeless causes and more power to you but on this one give up. I've tried. It's no use. They will say that Noel is a genius. That he changed things forever. And there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.

was thinking about the first person to tell me what harm reduction really meant—Sister maeJoy B. withU—and how she emphasized it wasn’t just about making whatever small choices you can to reduce harm, it was about providing resources to make those choices possible, and continuing to do so over time

Pulling this one out of my thread because this speaks to how overwhelming dealing with the aftermath of the 2023 storms was for elected members and agencies, and of course locals, in the hardest hits part of Auckland (and still is). This is just one measure, as it doesn't capture rentals and KO.

The point of this project was not to even try to stop it. It was to impress it, win it over with flags and crackdowns, co-opt it for Sensible Moderate Politics and establish a new dominant party of government for a decade, at least.

Sometimes you see something cool, and you want it for yourself. Inspired by Anthony Castrio's nyc-cartogram, I made an Auckland version: drop a pin and the city is redrawn by public-transport travel time instead of distance, with a couple more modes and a few extra features.
