Apparently Zizek has a new podcast, "Liberal Fascisms." I expect his Great Insight is that "liberalism is the real fascism" — ie, Jonah Goldberg's Liberal Fascism, translated into Hegelese. Where dialectics is a fancy name for bombastic, fascist-adjacent contrarianism.

This should be a moment that reminds every citizen of the gulf how disposable we are, how all our attempts at buying our way into power mean nothing in the face of a system that treats your skin like money or fuel… but unfortunately it wont!

Wasn’t gonna post but the contention that art’s political messaging shouldn’t be critiqued or even necessarily engaged with because its less serious than serious adult matters rubs my arab soul so deeply in the wrong way

This is not "Trumpism light." This is Europe exposing its racist, chauvinistic roots. It is Europe that developed modern intl law in the 19th c 4 the purpose of subjugating the Global South, which was excluded from intl law’s protections. They’re saying the quiet part out loud

Really interesting moment in the
@equatormag.bsky.social
chat where
@quinnslobodian.com
tries to generalize out from melinda cooper’s recent piece to postion the gulf states as incarnating the politics cooper is working out, but she doesn’t really wanna go there necessarily. many thoughts!
