A new film exposes the truth about West Papua. Rainforest destroyed. Villages displaced. Soldiers guarding plantations. They call it development. The film calls it ecocide.

83,000 Indonesian soldiers and police in West Papua. Not to defend the country. Not to protect people. To secure mines, palm oil and “development”. When a rainforest needs an army, it’s not development. It’s colonialism with bulldozers.

In Papua New Guinea’s Highlands, boys are trained to shoot assault rifles. Women and girls are trafficked to mercenaries as payment for war. Tribal fighting has turned into an industry. Modern weapons. Ancient revenge. And the world barely notices.

In West Papua the forest is dying. Bulldozers where birds once sang. Palm oil where sago fed villages. Soldiers where children once played. One day the rainforest will be gone. And when the last tree falls the world will ask: How did we let this happen? Because nobody stopped it.

Previously rainforest. Now a graveyard of trees. And Jakarta calls this development.

Back in Nijmegen. it’s just a normal station for most people. Trains coming, trains leaving. People checking their phones, bikes everywhere, lights reflecting on the pavement.

If you want to see colonialism in the 21st century, look at West Papua: soldiers secure the land, companies extract the wealth, and the indigenous population is pushed aside.

SAS just reminded me of my baggage allowance as a Gold member: 1 underseat bag 1 carry-on 4 checked bags × 32 kg If I actually used the full allowance: 4 × 32 kg = 128 kg checked baggage… plus cabin bags. I could literally check in another adult human worth of luggage.
