Gender is a performance and after playing to an empty house for twenty years I finally retired from the show.

After nearly a year I finally went back to finish Alan Wake 2. I only dropped it at the time because I got distracted by life and forgot, so getting back to it was a joy. I could talk about a ton, but I'll just drop this line from the Lake House DLC that has taken up permanent residence in my head:

Just watched this video and it's incredible, but the intro posted here is legitimately one of the biggest mental flashbangs I've ever experienced. I need to share it.

Man, I know that grifter shit like this 100% deserves to be dunked on, but it hurts me every time because so often I do genuinely feel like I need some overcomplicated "hack" to get my brain to do something as simple as putting a pencil to paper. Skill issue on my part, obviously, but it stings.

I'm jealous of people who can create things fast enough to participate in themed gimmick art months of their own design. People will bang out a dozen+ drawings in the time it takes me to make one that I hate and I can't help but feel that even trying is a waste of my time because of it.

I just encountered a character in Z-A that was almost seemed to be designed in a lab to Activate a specific kind of person and wondered if Game Freak knew what they were doing. And then I learned their backstory and saw that they knew *exactly* what they were doing. (Rank C mini-boss, iykyk)

The more of Pokemon Legends Z-A I play, the closer it gets to being a Yakuza/Like a Dragon game set in the Pokemon world, and I love it. Criticism of the early pacing and the visuals of the city are fair, but the way the narrative has been unfolding in explicit and subtle ways has me hooked.

Pokemon Legends ZA is delivering on the something I hoped it would with its setting: Pokemon with Yakuza-type energy with all the weirdos in side missions. My favorites include: Child who only wants to raise Kakuna and gets mad when they evolve, and Chespin who really, really wants to fight a car.

I used to be kinda down on the Undertale/Deltarune fandom phenomena of theorycrafting because there was so much of it was just theories for their own sake. But lately I've done a 180 on it because for fandoms without theorycrafting cultures the only narrative "analysis" you get is Lore Explainers.

Sometimes I worry about how much of my tastes are genuine and how much is me being extremely vulnerable to being pandered to with nostalgia. Pokemon is one of the largest corporate media franchises in the world and is extremely behind the times with ever game that comes out. But I still love them?

Something that Silksong has brought into discussions recently but has been on my mind for a long time prior is the existence of Places That Suck in video games. People complain about them, but IMO it is imperative that any game wishing to depict a cohesive world needs Places That Suck.

So, end of this month is the 2nd anniversary of the original posting of Transliterated's first chapter. Writing this book means the world to me, and I want to do something to commemorate it. I just not sure what I can do, especially since I'm still debilitated by medical bullshit at the moment.

One of the weird things about depression and ADHD that I don't see people talk about is how it's extremely easy for your actual skill in a craft to far outstrip your ability to demonstrate that skill to others. You learn a lot from starting and abandoning projects while still having nothing to show.

Digging through old project files and stumbled across something that might have legs if I could attach a proper story to it. I once successfully implemented a Node.js text parsing module as a RPG Maker MV plugin. A text adventure using RPG Maker's mechanical backbone could absolutely do cool things.

Sometimes I feel like I have a lot of nuanced thoughts on something in the current media zeitgeist and think "wow, I could write and record a video essay about this." I then take that thought and dunk it in the trash because I know that I would be the most insufferable essayist of all time.

I feel like I need a director or manager or something. Someone who can take my ideas and point me at the thing I need to do next. Someone who can keep me on task. I want to make a game, I know how to use the tools, I have the skills I need, but I can't follow through. It's too overwhelming.
