Why do you think I latch on to stuff like Disaster Report and PachiPara as hard as I do, man? It's not like I'm blind to them being games of their time in terms of how they look and play and tell their stories. It's because they have a confidence in themselves I often struggle to find in games now.

I finally tried playing both Skyrim and Diablo III in earnest a couple years ago and put them both down in a matter of hours because all I saw were hamster wheels. You can feel the Science behind their feedback loops and it felt awful. People come back to Morrowind because it isn't cynical, dude.

I legit fear for the overall game literacy of new junior designers in the coming years for various reasons and a big part of that is just, a lack of idiosyncratic games in many diets that aren't, like, tied to insidious monetization loops. Let people play games that are weird in honest ways, dude.
