For Random Game Saturday, here's Nakayama Miho no Tokimeki High School, a romance adventure game. A joint Nintendo/Square project, the big gimmick was there were real phone numbers to call and listen to a message from Nakayama. The lines were turned off within a year and there are no recordings.

As someone who just said that Bonk's Revenge was better than Sonic 1, I will say that Sonic 1 is fine. It's got rough edges that came from people who hadn't made anything quite like it before feeling their way, and it doesn't stand out in the field of 1991 platformers, but it was solid.

GDQ is currently showing Cyberia, a game that I hated even back in the 90s. But it's also making me realize that this heavily scripted experience with bad gameplay is basically AAA gaming for the past twenty years. Cyberia was an innovator. I mean, unless you count the awful games it was copying.

Power Shovel is up next in GDQ and that is one of the greatest games that only sickos know about. I think I'm going to try to get "game that only sickos know about" to replace the term "hidden gem".

I got an offer for promotional content and for once it was something in my wheelhouse and I am looking for a topic for an extra video I can do in two or three production days toward the end of the month. One problem: it's for something I absolutely hate. In fact, I have many videos about my hate.

I've been at this too long when I can identify all the carts and boxes on sight. (There was nothing too rare or expensive in the clearance Famicom bin, but if you bought up those Bucky O'Hares and Spartan X 2s then you could retire on them. Or at least get a decent house.)

I played some Pang Adventures, the recentish update to the Pang series. I think it's kind of underwhelming. The level designs are boring and the new additions aren't great. The whole thing feels half-baked. I'd just play one of the old games instead.
