Petrol and diesel cars fought for their lives in Norway but, as you can see, that smelly old Victorian technology ultimately lost the battle to EVs forever. I'm all for it and I love that's happening here too now. I also love how this is frightening some pretty evil businesses. Good.

I spent the next few years reading every Discworld book I could get my hands on, during my formative years. Terry Pratchett shaped my entire worldview. The adults around me - parents, church leaders - all wanted to raise me to believe in what I now recognize is a far-right cult imported from America

I like to tell kids “back in my day there were 9 planets” and when they go “what happened?” I say “we don’t like to talk about it” and refuse to elaborate. And someone is threatening to take this C grade dad joke away from me!? Outrage!!

The thing I have to keep remembering about asking an AI to explain what it just did is that it has no idea. What I'm actually doing is asking _this instance_ to explain what the hell that _other instance_ did, and if I've read the same chat I probably have just as much an idea as it does.

If you keep hitting the back button to play the song again, it's definitely still me in control right? not putting it on loop means I'm still the boss and I could stop listening to this song any time. Any time after the next time.

I just published a deep-dive into the 250-hour build behind syntaqlite, a SQLite formatter and LSP I built using AI agents. AI agents were the only reason built this after 8 years of wanting but there's a psychological toll to AI-assisted engineering. The post-mortem:

For eight years, I’ve wanted a high-quality set of devtools for working with SQLite. Given how important SQLite is to the industry1, I’ve long been puzzled that no one has invested in building a reall...

What a fascinating read (

When someone says „Scientists do not want you to know“ you can dismiss everything from there on. Scientists want you to know. They are desperate that you know. They can’t shut up about what they found out and want you to know.

Kind of the opposite for me, taking notes in a meeting distracts me from engaging in the conversation. Having someone else or a recording or llm handling that lets me be really present in the discussion
