Stopped at Great Cressingham church on one of our cycle rides last week. Sat in the porch to eat our lunch and up ran a Firebug (Pyrrhocoris apterus) nymph! Found a little group of them just outside the porch including a couple of adults. #insects #invertebrates

Pseudoscorpions can be found in old grass heaps by sieving layers lower down in the heap where the grass is decomposing. Hardcore pseud hunters get ankle deep in dung heaps to sieve for them! Panning for gold...

Finding pseudoscopions. Our compost bin had Pselaphochernes scorpioides in it. To search: scoop out top layer of kitchen/garden waste & put in bucket. Sieve next layer down using garden riddle over a bowl. Then use finer potting sieve over tray. They are small, around 2mm. 1/2 @duleyp.bsky.social

Delighted to find my first Roncus lubricus aka Reddish Two-eyed Chelifer in west Norfolk last week. Not sure it was as pleased to see me though as it scarpered off pretty smartish! Certainly wasn't expecting this species to turn up in a churchyard. #pseudoscorpion #arachnids

Last Saturday @jeremybartlett.bsky.social and I cycled to Castle Acre for a weeks holiday. We visited 26 churchyards and I found pseudoscorpions at 14 of them. 31 individuals of 3 species plus dead specimens of a 4th inside one church. A 5th species was found in woodland. Photos to follow.

Iodine Bolete, Hemileccinum impolitum. Found a cluster of these large boletes growing under a roadside oak tree on today's bike ride. When cut or damaged the base of the stem smells of iodoform (hospital corridors) and the flesh barely changes colour when bruised. #Fungi #FungusFriends

Today I’m mostly trying to do my bit for fungi conservation. Key point, the UK is globally important for grassland fungi. We protect just 5 sites in England. We have 26 #IUCN Red listed grassland fungi species i.e accorded the same status as Giant 🐼. I reckon we should be doing a bit better?!
