Bees nest in the crack of a tree - lean-in and you can smell the honey. It's a good job it was higher than Badger stretching distance.

A garden on the forest edge. Most/all gardens in the forest, are extremely well-secured against the Wild Boar. They will devastate a garden in a single night. Roe & Fallow (here) deer will jump a fence that is less than 5ft or so. The grass is always greener... 🌿

The Muntjac & Fox... A female Muntjac appears at the same location as the boar & scent marks her trail. A male is obviously following her. Whilst autumn may be the rutting season for many species of deer, Muntjac breed at all times of the year. A Fox then appears - what a fabulous brush! #mammals 🌿

Wild Boar, Forest of Dean This spot was not far from the forest edge. I set the camera at 6pm & the first boar arrived at 8pm. I lay a few apples in front of the camera & thinking they would be eaten in seconds, I threw down a handful of s/flower seeds to hold them. The apple was ignored! #nature 🌿

Surprised & indignant... I was on the edge of a clearing in the forest watching a mixed roving "winter flock" of small birds, move through. This Blackbird suddenly appeared from the woodland floor, clocked me & commenced the alarm calling, tail-wagging , wing-flicking display. Then it was just me.

For those who love the images of Autumn, the Forest of Dean could well issue a health warning: "Danger of Over-Stimulation" #autumn #nature 🌿

The forest edge is alive with Mistle Thrushes, Starlings and finches. Some of the berry-bearing trees & bushes are just a madness of flapping wings, as birds jostle for position. Are there Redwings amongst them? you ask yourself. Autumn certainly feels more advanced here than Dorset. #ForestofDean

Large Corvid displays (Rooks & Jackdaws) over the cottage earlier. There was something in the autumnal air which suddenly triggered the birds into display mode. It wasn't particular windy but they appeared to find thermal uplifts & some birds circled & climbed to huge heights. #corvids #ukbirds 🌿
