We found over a dozen 7 spot ladybirds (Coccinella septempunctata) around the garden yesterday. The Phlox seedheads were very popular including this individual which was particularly damp after the rain on Thursday🌧️🐞🐞 @vc40ladybirds.bsky.social

Back to being rather chilly, after a mild couple of days! Today's lunchtime mooch produced another new species for my #LadybirdYearList, Scymnus suturalis (Conifer Ladybird) #VC40Ladybirds #MicroLadybird

Between Xmas and NY, I went to Kent to see friends and family, and did a bit of recording wherever possible! It fascinates me how readily Chilocorus bipustulatus (Heather Ladybird) can be found from conifers! In Shropshire, I've only ever had them from heather, despite tapping plenty of conifers!

The Adonis Ladybird (Hippodamia variegata) had a very successful 2025, and I’m certainly finding plenty of them! Had 9 today, taking my total up to 14 so far this year! With the exception of last year, I often get less than that in a whole year! #VC40Ladybirds

A convergent ladybird (named for the converging white lines behind the head) sets in on a herd of milkweed aphids (Arizona, June 2025). I love a well-composed shot of textbook bug behavior.

Our neighbor for this week is 𝘊𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘭𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘴 𝘴𝘦𝘹𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘢, commonly known as the six-spotted zigzag ladybird (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae). A highly common and ecologically beneficial beetle, it is found across the city's gardens, agricultural fields, and urban parks.

Today’s mooch in poorly recorded monads in north Shropshire produced Nephus quadrimaculatus (Ivy LB), Coccidula rufa (Red Marsh LB), Rhyzobius lophanthae (Bristly LB) and Scymnus haemorrhoidalis (Red-rumped LB) amongst others! #VC40Ladybirds #MicroLadybird
