Really looks to be a “good year” for #ladybirds in #Northumberland. Over the weekend, I’ve visited 4 locations each with 50+ 7-spot ladybirds, the local Nature Reserve having 80+ on vegetation within about 3-400m. Plenty of 14-spot, too, along with a surprising Eyed Ladybird on a nettle and a 2-spot

Another terrible phone photo is my contribution to #BirdOfTheDay theme, #Petals&Perches. I was so mesmerised by this Loten’s Sunbird feeding from flowers as I supped my morning cup of tea in the hills above Ella in Sri Lanka last year, I dared not move to get my camera, so this is the best I got!

Best moth of the weekend was this cracking Dyseriocrania subpurpurella that landed on my cycling jacket when I was out-and-about in #Northumberland. The gold wings glimmered in the Spring sunshine, but subtle purple spotting shows well in the photos. The UV trap? 3/2 over 2 nights! #TeamMoth

Heard my first Chiffchaff in #Northumberland fully 10 days earlier than I’ve done before. Several moths have appeared a week before I’ve usually recorded them. Newts were in the pond 10-12 days earlier than the last 3 years.
