Heather Ladybird (Chilocorus bipustulatus) and Red Marsh Ladybird (Coccidula rufa) from St. John's Wood on the shores of Lough Ree, Roscommon over the weekend. Both new for the site, also recorded 7-spot and 10-spot ladybirds. Unfortunately no 13-spot Ladybird.

I found some super ladybirds recently; the tiny Dot Ladybird Stethorus pusillus from Belhus Woods Country Park TQ5682 on the 16th September, and the Scarce 7-Spot Coccinella magnifica from Little Haven TQ8189 on the 19th.

Counted 37 nymphs and 60 adult Striped Shieldbugs (Graphosoma italicum) at Ninefields, Waltham Abbey today. This has been the primary population this year, numbers down in other areas and no new spread to other nearby habitat patches that I have been checking. #EssexWildlife #UKBugs

Found a small number of Dogwood Aphids (Anoecia corni) on a dogwood shrub (Cornus) in a garden in Upshire, Essex yesterday. The presence of numerous 7-spot Ladybirds suggests the population may previously have been rather larger. #EssexWildlife

Just recorded an episode on the 'white-spot ladybird' Calvia decemguttata as per @andrew-jewels.bsky.social . It's scheduled for next Tuesday when im on holiday.

A male Angle-spot Ladybird, Scymnus frontalis, found (not by me) during our recent visit to an organic farm in east Shropshire. One of the larger (c.3mm) and - supposedly - commoner species of Scymnus, but one of the hardest to find in my experience.

Tapped one adult and one nymph of an Ectobius cockroach species out of a Firethorn hedge beside a canal towpath in Waltham Abbey, Essex today. The introduced Garden Cockroach (Ectobius vittiventris) a likely candidate but probably not identifiable from photographs. #EssexWildlife #UKCockroach

Stunning day in the New Forest with @mammalmark.bsky.social today, a total of nine Jersey Ladybirds (Clavia decemguttata) found around the Denny Wood area. The most numerous of the 14 species of ladybird seen and significantly after 15 years of active searching the 50th UK species for us both.

Very pleased to finally catch up with my first Oak Ladybirds (Scymnus auritus) of the year last week in central Shropshire. Good numbers of adults and even a couple of very late larvae.

One of the best things about moth trapping in your garden is the bycatch. Last night I had a real surprise when this small ladybird appeared. I didn’t recognise it but it’s seemingly Oenopia conglobata which has only been recorded a handful of times in Britain and not previously in Essex. 🐞

Found three Horseshoe Ladybirds (Clitostethus arcuatus) on whitefly infested Greater Celandine in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire yesterday. Large patch of GC growing behind a fence on private land but a small accessible patch growing through the fence. #HertfordshireWildlife #UKLadybirds

A trip to the Somerset Levels on Sunday to find Large Marsh Grasshopper was successful (more anon). But it also produced this VERY unexpected 13-spot Ladybird, Hippodamia tredecimpunctata, a lifer for me and possibly the first one recorded from the Levels.

It's only looking through photos that I realise an Orange Ladybird (Halyzia 16-guttata) I found in Abergele last week was infected with presumed Hesperomyces halyziae! First I've seen since 2019 when I encountered an infected one in France. #Coccinellidae #Ladybird #HesperomycesHalyziae
