Likewise up at @spurnbirdobs.bsky.social on Sunday lunchtime at #Migfest25 in the gap between lunch and the final batch of guided walks, the swallows swooping around the main festival field were one of the highlights of the weekend. There are few things in life better than watching swallows.

All you will be able to see in the photo are a few black dots, but I spent a magical half hour yesterday in the rain in this field next to High Elms Country Park with around 40-50 Swallows swooping around my head.

Sea Pea, Lathyrus japonicus, at Rye Harbour for the #WildflowerHour #SeedHeads challenge. Now nationally scarce, it was once so abundant on beaches that the pods were said to be harvested by people (for example the inhabitants of Aldeburgh) in times of famine. Whether this is true, I don't know!

Galls on the leaves of Field Maple, Acer campestre, caused by the gall mite Aceria myriadeum. Each gall contains several mites, which escape through tiny, hair-fringed holes on the underside of the leaf before leaf fall and over-winter in bark crevices. #WildWebsWednesday

Hop, Humulus lupulus, at Mitcham Junction station. It is dioecious, so male and female flowers are on separate plants. This one is a male plant, so it won't develop the "cones" which of course have long been used to flavour beer. #Wildflowerhour
