Tonight! Once again, I'm live-posting the Shoreline City Council meeting. This time from my bedroom because I'm still sort of working and it's complicated, life's really busy for me right now, don't worry about it. On the agenda for tonight:

Today was the last day of the Shoreline (WA) Farmer's Market so I hauled home the bike valet stand. 2 banners, 100 feet of mesh plastic fencing and a bike rack, plus the bin of stuff on the front.

“No Kings” is great , but we really don't get a functioning democracy back until we internalize, bone deep, the instinctive response to this and every other statement like it: “I don’t care what that rich guy thinks.” Make it your morning affirmation. Say it ten times at the top of every hour.

IT'S OFFICIAL: Shoreline (pop. 63,740) becomes the latest Washington city to fully eliminate all mandates for off-street parking in new development following a 6-0 vote just now. This makes Shoreline the sixth city statewide and the largest city in King County to take this step in land use reform.

Instead of adding significant study and work to an already-overburdened planning department, Bellevue could follow *checks notes* Lynnwood and just pass state parking reform. No delay, no study, no outreach. You legally have to do it anyway - why not do it fast when you're in a housing crisis?

The new Neil Halloran documentary on Smallpox has completely changed how I see the RFK Jr. version of the world. Neil (softly) argues that realizing that disease isn't the fault of the sick /or/ the fault of the Gods ushered in a new future where we felt the authority to care for each other.

Local DC post for the day, but it's insane how successful the transit-oriented development around NoMA has been. The station is now ~50% busier than it was in 2019, despite overall metro ridership still being down. This year, it's busier than Dupont Circle or Columbia Heights

On my way home from city council a driver turned right in front of me without checking for traffic from the left. I avoided hitting her on my bike, but if I was in a car I'd have hit her dead on her driver's idea door and killed her. So that's a tone setter for the rest of my evening.

YouTube has a "don't recommend me this channel" button and I feel like it would be nice to differentiate from "I'm just not that into this band" and "If you show me AI generated pro-trump meme videos one more time I will burn down the world." Feels like there's needed room for nuance there.
