R.I.P. Diane Keaton (January 5, 1946 – October 11, 2025)

I'm absolutely shocked and sad to hear about Diane Keaton passing today at 79. She was such a lovely and incredible actress being in so many classic films like The Godfather and Reds and many more while also doing some voicework in Finding Dory and Green Eggs and Ham. I'm so sad.

The new Mutant Mayhem short looks pretty hilarious and I still love how fun these incarnations of the turtles are. If anything, it makes me curious to see them back in the sequel in a few years. Eager to see this short once it's out.

Guillermo del Toro and Netflix have announced plans to form a new stop motion studio that will be both a studio and a school to push the medium forward and will develop plans to make Del Toro's next stop motion project after Pinocchio. I'm very hyped to see what this leads to!

Winnie the Pooh (2011) is still such a charming little film. I still maintain it's probably the most underrated film from Walt Disney Animation Studios. Also, its hand-drawn animation is simply fabulous.

I always saw Luca as essentially classic Pixar charm with the sensibilities of their more experimental modern filmmaking outlook. I can see something like this being made akin to the likes of the first two Toy Story films, A Bug's Life or Monsters Inc.

Reminds me of when some Disney movies had similar renamings (i.e. The Snow Queen became Frozen, The Bear and the Bow became Brave, and so on). FYI, if you order a WDAS or Pixar movie on Shein, a Skydance Animation movie is what’ll arrive.

One animated film that has really grown on me since I first saw it is easily Luca. I really adore just how simple yet pure it is. Films that are just comforting and give out good vibes are films we need more of. I hope Pixar can do more like this.

Pete Docter may not be a perfect leader himself, but you can tell he does care about Pixar even if he has to comply with what Disney asks for the sake of money. Lasseter, even separate from the SA, is arguably even worse than the executives at Disney with how much of a tyrant he was.

No, it was pitched and in development while he was still there. There's concept art in Elemental's art book that proved this. The last film pitched to Lasseter from what I gathered was actually Turning Red. It was pitched Halloween 2017. He was out of the studio three weeks later to the day.

Swapped is such a terrible title. It's so generic. Also, I think both of those films are doomed. Anything Skydance Animation makes is probably gonna be cursed as long as Lasseter is still there.

Absolutely. I even saw Domee Shi admit that in an interview herself and stated she was so lucky that Pete Docter was her mentor and was able to allow her to make the film she wanted to make. I can imagine had Lasseter still been there, it would've been a mess.

Indeed. And what's crazy with you bringing up Ruby Gillman being simple is that the crazy kraken climax in Luca would've been horribly convoluted. It would've involved a ridiculous magic curse in a book and Alberto wouldn't have changed back and Luca and Guilia have to stop him. It's so ridiculous.

He didn't want Luca as a slice of life film like Ghibli and wanted a ridiculous climax where Alberto turns into a kraken and threatens to destroy the entire town. Elemental would've had Wade's mother as a twist villain where she blackmails Ember to break up with Wade to protect her image.

I've also heard stories about many of the ideas Lasseter suggested to many of the films that came out this decade at Pixar before he left and they are terrible. A lot of ideas he suggested for films like Luca and Elemental were bad. And that's not getting into how he watered down films at Skydance.

Who's going to tell her that the creative spark left him in the 2010s and Skydance's movies have left a lot to be desired?

YouTube keeps trying to get me to watch what’s this person’s FOURTH video using KPop Demon Hunters as a tool to punch down on others, Elio especially. In fact, their channel is nothing but grifter sludge. I doubt they’ve seen Elio and know for a fact they don’t care about KPDH at all.

I also saw a comment today of someone saying that Pixar's current problems would be solved if Lasseter came back. I notice whenever I see someone say that, they never follow it up with what they think of the movies he's produced at Skydance.

Ernest Scared Stupid (John R. Cherry III, 1991; Touchstone) - 8/10 The Angry Birds Movie 2 of the Ernest franchise mixed with spookiness and silliness, except this is somehow slightly better than Angry Birds Movie 2 (I still enjoyed that sequel)

20th Century Studios Animation has officially announced that a second Simpsons Movie is finally happening and revealed it’ll be released on July 23, 2027! I was not expecting this at all knowing a follow up has been in development hell for two decades, but I am very interested!
