I still have massive respect for Pete Docter. He's an incredible filmmaker who knows how to craft amazing stories, and I think Pixar has been in the best place creatively under him that they've been in since their golden age. That said, he needs to learn when to keep his mouth shut.

Ono Ghost Market was also the Pixar film that came out of the initially scrapped Disney+ show. Will say this, compared to say, Moana 2 and Search for SquarePants, the Pixar team did have already have a much better grasp of getting it from streaming to the big screen.

I don't have too much to say about the recent Pixar news... ...although I do think Docter's reasonings for what happened on Elio were clearly an "appeasing the executives at Disney" reasoning. Still should have been worded a lot better, though. And we have gotten more originals than sequels...

Cool fun fact: Mutant Mayhem co director Kyler Spears did some additional voices on Hoppers. Animators always stick together.

I also have yet to really post my thoughts on it on here... ...but man, the new Animal Farm genuinely looks abysmal and already, it's one of THOSE films that really has a hard time understanding what made the original book and really misunderstands what tone it wants to go for.

I do still find it fascinating that it wasn't until last year that Disney REALLY decided to do more with Zootopia besides the sequel... ...except for Asia. How the first film did in China alone was why it ended up making a billion dollars.

Ten years ago today, Zootopia was released. It's hard for me to believe because this Oscar-winning animated film featuring a bunny and a fox solving a mystery is the reason that made me want to look more and study animation. I owe it so much and I adore it with all my heart.

Disney and Sony severely underestimated just how many copies of Zootopia 2 they were going to sell on 4K Blu-Ray. Seriously, the easiest way to get it now is to find scalping copies of it for 100 to 200 dollars on eBay. Really hoping for a miracle...

And some shocking Cars 2 facts... ...half of the film was only animated in 2 months, as Victor Navone, a Pixar veteran who has worked there since 2000 and has worked on everything from Monsters Inc. to Hoppers pointed out. Another reminder of how rushed it was.

Zootopia 2 ended up becoming the most successful film of last year in the US. Great word of mouth and fantastic staying power can do wonders.

A Pixar film getting good reactions mostly means the sky is blue. And seeing Hoppers's early reactions is no different.

I had a double feature tonight of both War of the Worlds 2025 and Smurfs 2025. Two films that I feel reach levels of bad that I feel no film should ever reach. Oh, boy.

I feel split on Demon Hunters's Annie victories. While it was sadly yet another sweep, one that has been a bad habit for the Annies for years(it also happened with Wild Robot and Across and was an especially bad habit in the late 2000s and early 2010s)... ...the wins it got were very deserved.

And took them long enough to announce an animated Venom movie. I am already in.

So the tariffs were illegal. Not surprised at all. Just another piece to the devil's puzzle.

Having the Buzz Lightyear army actually be good was one thing I wasn't expecting. I cannot wait for Toy Story 5.

Went to go see Scarlet today. It's very messy and it's easy to see why it got the divisive reception it got, but it's still just beautiful to look at and a lot of the themes it had were interesting. At the very least, I am happy that it does exist.

Saw Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die today. A really great film and one that I do think will become quite an underappreciated one... ...and also one that REALLY treats AI in a harmful light.
