Rewatched Kiki's Delivery Service for the first time in forever. It is still a very cute, heartwarming, and uplifting movie.

Calling human made media you don't like "slop" just screams elitism and arrogance.   It makes you sound like a snob and an asshole who shows contempt to the humans who made that art.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I, for one, would greatly welcome the return of 20+ episode seasons. And weekly releases. I hate that streaming took that away from us.

"Cancel culture", at least the way conservatives described it, was never real. It was always something that sex pests, bigots, and other shitty people whined about when they were caught and had to face the tiniest of consequences for their actions.

If you use AI to churn out something, then you are not a creator. You didn't put in the effort, creativity, or hard work. You didn't improve yourself. You're a lazy grifter who wants to cosplay as a creative person, and people will rightly call you out on that.

It's a really close call between John Carpenter and Guillermo del Toro. Carpenter is the horror master with iconic movies like The Thing and Halloween, and del Toro is a modern horror master who effortlessly blends horror into other genres such as with Frankenstein.

Watched Porco Rosso for the first time. Very fun movie that has a nice blend. of fantasy, history, and adventure. There's an obvious love to early aviation here as well as anti-fascist themes.

Social media continues to think they speak for the general audience and those who aren't terminally online, when I think that time and time again, chuds and film nerds alike show that they do not understand the general audience at all.

We all know that Trump is going to replace Bondi with some other equally incompetent stooge he will also throw under the bus if he thinks it will help him escape blame. Reminder that fascists hate each other just as much as they hate us.

I don't know what's more exhausting and annoying - everything being turned into a culture war or a console war. Both are pushed by terminally online losers, who have no idea how the real world works, and both make the discourse and social media even more toxic.

The only thing inevitable about AI is the crash. All the signs point to that the bubble is bursting, yet governments don't seem to be backing away. It's wild how much the entire world's economy was gambled on a tech fad hyped up by billionaires.

Conservatives never believed in freedom. Or small government. Or free speech. They're sure as hell not "pro-life". Their entire belief system has been a lie, because I think deep down most of them want a police state where only THEY have rights.

April Fools was a good exercise in not believing everything you see online. It would be nice if people could maintain that skepticism about every rumor and unverified story they see online every other day.

I'm watching Studio Ghibli movies this month, including rewatching some I haven't seen in a very long time and others that I haven't seen before. Started with rewatching Princess Mononoke the other day. One of Miyazaki's best. The environmental themes are just as relevant today.

Calling a fun movie that's meant for kids and video game fans "the end of cinema" or "worse than AI" comes across as snobby, and needlessly hyperbolic, and melodramatic.

Despite all the bad shit in the world, I still think it's pretty cool that humanity is still sending people into space and exploring the final frontier. More funding for this, not war.

The bubble is bursting.

Some people simply enjoy being reactionary assholes for no reason other than they think it’s cool or it will get them likes.   Combine that with media literacy being at an all time low, and you get some really shitty takes on movies, games, and pop culture.

I would really love to know what it is about film discourse in particular that's so damn pretentious, insufferable, and shitty that brings out the worst in otherwise (usually) reasonable people. Especially during blockbuster season.

Imagine having so little respect for your fans, your family, and yourself that you become dependent on AI to do everything for you. People like that are going to be in for a very rude awakening when the bubble bursts.

To be honest, I've come to dislike April Fools. I don't mind harmless jokes, but when you do blatant misinformation during a time when that is at an all time high, all you do is make things worse and get people's hopes up.

Don't be elitist or toxic about disliking or liking something. There's so much bad shit going around and we really don't need people making that worse.

There really needs to be a law against these huge monopolies and billionaires buying all our media. I still consider the billionaire ownership of our media and information networks to be one of the greatest threats to humanity.

Sorry, but this "review" just reeks of pretentious snobbery and shows disrespect towards animation. Like the movie or don't, but don't call ANY movie that actual humans put countless hours into making "worse than AI".

I'm not an expert - I don't know if we're in a video game crash or not. But I do think that constantly chasing the live service fad, dealing with meddling executives, and having AI and tariffs drive up the price of everything is not sustainable.

The reason why I can't take the obnoxious "cinema is dying" BS seriously is because I've been hearing it non-stop from film snobs for as long as I've been on the internet. Cinema isn't going anywhere.

Seriously, stop caring so much about meaningless Rotten Tomatoes scores or what some terminally online losers think about something. Do you like that thing? Does it bring you joy, comfort, and/or meaning? Then that's what matters.

It's still insane that LGBT+ people have to deal with continued smears from conservatives meanwhile the Republican POTUS is a pedophile and more and more right-wing politicians and activists get exposed as creeps and actual groomers. It's always projection.

Oh, I'm going to be very smug and petty when the AI bubble finally bursts with "I told you so" at the ready and derisive laughter at the people, especially the tech bros, who bought into the hype.

I believe that most art is political, whether intentionally or not. I also think that going out of your war to insist that your work "isn't political" is in itself a very pollical message. Just not the one you intended.

How do people still not get that Star Trek is not about the spaceships or the phasers? It was always about using sci-fi settings to explore the human condition and be a social commentary on the times we live in. The fun sci-fi shit was just a bonus.

Once again, the big problem that both the gaming and film/television industries face is nothing to do with IPs, remakes, or "WoKe!". It continues to be incompetent and meddling executives who continue to fuck it all up for their own greed and lust for short term profits.

It's frustrating and sad how online media criticism is now just people performatively hating popular things for clout, bigots screaming "WoKe!" at everything, losers hyping up meaningless console war shit, or obvious bad baith rage bait.

Only the easiest marks still believe in "trickle down economics". Rich people aren't going to spread it around. They're either hoarding that money, use it to meddle in our democracy, or use it to harass marginalized people they don't like. You really think they'll share it?

Being disappointed by a beloved science fiction or fantasy writer who turned out to be a really terrible person feels like a rite of passage at this point.

Gaming should be affordable and accessible, and turning it into a luxury item is not a good thing for anyone. I shudder at the thought of $1000+ consoles becoming the new normal. All the more reason why AI needs to collapse, and it will.

Yup. For people who call themselves Film Twitter/Sky, they sure have no idea how movies are made or how the industry works.

Mad respect to those who can still do good satire during a time when we have rejected Captain Planet villains running the world and when it feels like Idiocracy sometimes feels like a better future than the one we ended up with.

"But what about *insert dead creator here*?" You know that they're dead, right? Listening to Ride of the Valkyries or reading Cthulhu doesn't give terrible living people a platform and more money to do shitty things. That's the difference.

Getting involved in hatedoms tells me two things about you - that you're either unwilling or unable to engage in actual good faith criticism and that you care more about meaningless internet clout than forming your own opinions.

Stop forcing AI slop into everything. It is especially insulting when your userbase has been rather vocal about how much they don't want it.

Just came back from Project Hail Mary. Incredible movie and one of the best adaptations of an original source material. Visually stunning, great sound, and this is probably Gosling's best performance to date. I'd highly recommend it.
