Social media killed media literacy. Even when the creator flat out tells people what happened, they put their fingers in their ears and insist that only their "headcanon" and "lore" matters because they're unwilling to accept anything else or they simply don't understand it.

Studio CEOs and c-suite executives have got to be some of the most out of touch people on the planet. Right up there with tech bros, billionaires, Republicans, and investors.

The combination of algorithms rewarding negativity, culture war grifting, console war BS, box office obsession, Rotten Tomatoes scores, film nerds’ and critics’ pretentiousness, and toxic fans, has made having any reasonable discussion about film all but impossible online.

If you use AI to market something, that tells me that you're a cheapskate who has no pride in the thing that you made/organized, and I'm not interested in it. And it makes me sus that the product that you're advertising is probably AI slop as well.

As a life long fan of Weird Al, it makes me happy to know that he's one of those rare non-problematic celebrities who is a genuinely good person and never sold out.

It feels like everything is becoming worse, and people will need art and entertainment for escapism and joy more than ever.   So I really don't appreciate studios trying to force AI slop in everything, killjoys yelling at everyone, or the increasingly shitty discourse about everything.

My main issues with digital media are: We don't actually own it. These studios can yank it away from us at any given time for no reason. It sucks for media preservation and for people in areas with slow internet.

My advice is to ignore as much of pop culture discourse as you can because you know that it is toxic and mostly done in bad faith. Enjoy the media that you enjoy either on your own or with a select group of people, either IRL or online, who you can trust.

The right continues to act belligerent and bigoted, take away our rights, and hate everyone who doesn't look or think like them, and they then wonder why nobody else likes them, goes to their events, or watches their propaganda.

The big studios are not your friends. Love the art and media that the creatives and artists at the studios make, but don't be afraid to criticize the terrible corporate side of these studios that the creative side has nothing to do with. Leave the artists the fuck alone.
