Five years ago today, The Mitchells Vs. The Machines was released. One of Sony Pictures Animation's finest films, this goofy comedy where a family's vacation is hijacked by a robot apocalypse is so fun with its great heart, beautiful animation, and wacky yet lovable characters.

Note to any marketing team: DO NOT SHIT ON NEGATIVE OPINIONS LIKE ANIMAL FARM DID.

It sucks if you enjoy a cartoon made by a problematic creator, but don’t attack EVERYONE who was attached to it. They aren’t involved with the creator’s actions, they didn’t know, it’s one guy among dozens of artists ruined the series.

This is actually a very solid take that not many are talking about. The more you learn how troubled productions are more common than you may think in media, the more that the argument of “This is bad because the production went wrong” is not really a good one.

The only thing I will say about the current film criticism discourse is I don't like the increase in buzzwords being used in professional reviews. Why am I seeing terms like "slop" and "jingling keys" in IndieWire reviews? Did they hire Harry Knowles?

I'm still heartbroken for the crew that this guy leaked their movie and ruined their hard work. Even though the Paramount+ movie is still nonsense and it should be released in theaters, this film did not deserve to be leaked. Just an awful series of events for this film.

Agreed. Paramount throughout history has had its ups and downs, but the studio/company that's home not just Nickelodeon's originals but also Star Trek, Mission Impossible and South Park definitely deserves better ownership. Those franchises are more than just glorified IP real-estate and content.

While I don’t like the Ellisons and what they’re doing at Paramount Skydance, I don’t want Paramount the STUDIO to shut down just because I dislike the Ellisons. They just need to not merge with WB and focus on exciting films again. This studio and its legacy deserve better.

Got to see #TheSuperMarioGalaxyMovie today, and it was pretty decent. It is more flawed than the first with more rushed pacing, not enough Rosalina, and the strange decision to add other different Nintendo franchises, and not all the jokes fully landed, but it does have some enjoyable characters…

The first trailer for Coyote Vs Acme has finally dropped today and man, I am so glad that this is coming out after all the chaos it went through thanks to Zaslav at Warner Bros. It's nice to see another Looney Tunes film on the big screen and this looks delightfully silly!

Well, okay, that is a development I had NOT been expecting for this... BUT seeing how Pixar has worked in topical references and addressed real-world topics beforehand, it makes sense they would address doomscrolling and the bad nature of that.

In the last few weeks I've spoken to two executives at a major streamer - one in adult animation, one in preschool content for both animation and live action - and both basically told me the same thing: they're looking for YouTube success stories with huge subscriber bases. 🧵

A new poster for Coyote Vs. Acme has been revealed at CinemaCon as well as confirmation that the first trailer will be dropping next week. It is so surreal this is finally coming out, but I am more than hyped given all it went through! I cannot wait to see this!

A new still for the new Peanuts film, Snoopy Unleased, has been revealed and will have a work in progress screeening at Annecy before its release on Apple TV. I'm glad to hear this is still happening knowing it's from Steve Martino who directed The Peanuts Movie at Blue Sky!

Oh yeah, they are all focused on Sony to handle the distribution of home media so it is kinda old news.
