This isn't a coincidence, IMO. The fly community is generally super rigorous - because there are so many tools and techniques available, people expect you to really nail things in order to get published (and keep getting funded)

Sad to learn that Joanne Chory, a brilliant scientist at Salk Institute and @hhmi.bsky.social, has passed away. Despite battling Parkinson's, she continued her research until the end. We were fortunate to collaborate with her lab on the mechanosensitivity of the Venus Fly Trap. A huge loss!

The Salk Institute shared the sad news that Prof. Joanne Chory passed away yesterday due to complications from Parkinson’s disease. She was one of the most influential biologists of our time. And this is how I will remember Joanne, expertly guiding us on where to go. Joanne, we will miss you! ❤️

It’s been a few months since I have started using this colorful to-do-list to stay on top of the many tasks of a starting PI. I think much of my relative remained sanity is due to this organization of the seemingly never ending list of tasks. And I’ve been able to cross so many tasks of the list!
