today is a Portuguese Man'O War (Physalia physalis) spotted in Llangennith by Phillippa Davies, washed by after last week's storms. This species is not actually a jellyfish, but a colony of small creatures called zooids. Many thanks for record & pic, submitted via LERC Wales App.

After missing my chance there last summer it was great to see my first Small Red-eyed Damselflies today, with a few on the wing at Parc Menai - including an egg-laying female. Still rare in north Wales I think, but presumably overlooked.

Fossil swamp-forest plants at Brymbo, Wrexham - where 300 million years ago giant lycopods (clubmosses) like Lepidodendron towered to over 120ft tall with massive horsetails like Calamites! Amazing to be able to see these at Stori Brymbo.

It’s not just plants that photosynthesise! Solar powered sea slugs get their names from eating the chloroplast in algae, which lets them use photosynthesis as a source of energy. Sea slugs that do this are called “sacoglossans” and are often a vivid green colour. 💚
