This huge Daphne bholua is the largest specimen I know - must be 10ft+. It grows beside an otherwise ordinary terrace house in Glan Conwy on the edge of the busy A470, an antidote to traffic the thundering by. The scent is magnificent 🌱

Crocus tommasinianus 'Whitewell Purple’ in the sunshine today. Apparently sometimes known as ‘tommies’ (anyone call them this?) the species is named after Muzio G. Spirito de Tommasini (1794–1879), a rare combination of botanist & politician who became mayor of Trieste in 1839 (pic from Wikipedia) 🌱

“Houseplant Jungle” is by far the hardest and best jigsaw I’ve ever done, taking five days to complete. A glorious image by Troy Litten, so many leaves are plants I’ve grown over the years (it comes with a key to name them all). Very absorbing and meditative.

Flowering on the #WinterSolstice, Annual Meadow-grass (Poa annua) blooms year-round thanks to its hybrid origin. One parent is the cold-tolerant alpine P. supina, the other is P. infirma from warm Mediterranean areas. You’ll be almost guaranteed to find it on the #NewYearPlantHunt #Wildflowerhour
