Every Sunday since January I go to the City Hall rink to learn how to skate, with the handy equipment for beginners and the amazing coaching of the drop-in instructor. Finally I skated w/o guides for 30 seconds straight for the first time! 🎇

Stood here for five hours tonight. Heard at least six different languages being spoken. Was pitched several ideas for the festival by people (put lights in the river was one idea 🤔). Attended to a lost kid. Got randomly donated a kicksled. Talked to what looked to be Krampus while they donated.

I’ve never seen the Century Park bike parkade this busy! Especially in January This is doubly impressive given that to access it you have to go downtown and fill out a form that the service center people don’t even know exists, to get a blank white card that only works at this one place

Hey comics nerds. I want to get some comics appropriate for my 6yo grandsons for when they come over. I don't want any toy tie in nonsense. I haven't read a comic in 45 years so no idea what's out there.

When one chooses to take a 5 minute cab ride instead of what could have been a very direct 20 minute bus ride because of the real risk of sidewalks being too icy, that's a huge problem for mobility in winter. I can afford the extra $10 on top of the bus fare, not everyone can all the time.

My carry on luggage, my original one from when I immigrated and I have personalized the design, is officially too big based on the airline guidelines! 😭 Not looking forward to shopping for a teenier one.

Yes - they don't aim to plow residential streets down to bare pavement, they aim for a graded 5cm snowpack, but that only happens after they're done arterials. If it snows again, it gets reset and they do arterials again. It's very bad for anyone not in a car.

When I worked at a different library branch, I used to visit a women’s shelter for monthly storytimes. They were generally chaos as the kids were new to storytime structure. I never thought the kids got much out of it until the coordinator told me a story that proved me wrong.

I think I'm going to have to walk/ETS tomorrow. This was my commute home today. Videos pulled from my Stories (thus the abrupt end). Every winter this section floods. Snow and snow maintenance will be why I stop winter commuting.

It's quite strange to be the primary target demographic for marketing purposes. Stores and even public events are blasting tunes from my young adult years. I definitely felt inspired skating at the public rink downtown while listening to 'No One' and 'Gangnam Style'.

Attending a #TRBAM workshop today on "transforming the rider experience with innovation." I'm hoping we get into a meaty discussion of what innovation and tech can solve for -- as well as when tech and AI are just window dressing, or more sinisterly, pull resources away from the real solutions.

I teach bystander intervention for a living and have taught de-escalation to law enforcement. Trust me when I say that bottle girls, gas station clerks, strippers, front desk employees at hotels and airports, baristas, etc. have better de-escalation skills than any cop I've ever seen.
