This excellent film may start a little slow, but stick with it. It's a powerful short documentary about neo-colonial exploitation in the digital economy.

This is where the AI push into schools feels quite parallel to all other reforms of past decades: 1️⃣ introduce new policy/system/tool without evidence 2️⃣ then claim need for data/evidence to support success 3️⃣ THEN blame teachers/schools if it isn't successful (#3 is already happening, btw)

Data brokers are the invisible engines of the data surveillance economy. It's hard to escape. Until. California just opened a website to delete (and keep deleting) your information from 500+ data brokers in one fell swoop. Try it if you're in California and LMK how it goes!

When I've talked to deepfake victims, both public figures and everyday people, I've heard horror stories about police laughing them out the door, girls getting expelled for reporting their classmates, and lawyers advising them that suing would just make it worse. This is abuse culture in action.

this = the problem w/ X. by turning it into 4chan w/ virality distribution the platform turns everything into a meme. so it must strip away almost all context & imbue it w/ intense amounts of nihilism or so many layers of irony that there's no humanity anymore. it's a great dehumanization machine

We have a lot of medicine (whether in the form of practices, equipment, or actual drugs) that could be saving lives *right now*, and it breaks my heart that greed and profits (and this broken scam we call insurance) in this country are prioritized. Somehow I still believe this country can change 😭

As of today, I am a FULL professor. I do not care much for occupational status markers. Still, it is not lost on me that only 2% of full professors are Black women. This goes beyond personal accomplishment. It is a responsibility to do as much as I can for others. That is exactly what I aim to do.

When I was little, the U.S. military came to our home at gunpoint and took me and my family away. We were imprisoned for years in barbed wire camps simply because we were Japanese American. I have spent my life telling that story, hoping it would never be repeated.
