I have long thought that if John Howard had been the opposition leader after the Port Arthur massacre, he would have fought tooth and nail against any changes to gun laws, and used the event & proposed law changes to attack the govt & cause division. This week shows that to be true.

I don’t know what making it harder to protest or sanctioning public institutions would have done to prevent the massacre. But I know if the Akram’s didn’t have access to firearms ppl would be alive now. Gun reform is an obvious & popular policy lever that can pulled now before further blood is shed.
