apparently, I've been watching so much urbanism stuff that youtube decided that I should see a video about the 6 high speed rail projects in Guangdong. (this is the pearl river delta area, it's kinda like China's California at a very superficial level but like with actual high speed rail)

What's interesting is that even at 0 cost there is still elasticity on transit ridership levels. We can see this in action with the increased usage of bikes, which for most riders already owned the bike but the cost of driving wasn't high enough to get them to switch.

I can almost guarantee all this will amount to is creating useless shortcut roads that destroy communities not actual solutions to congestion like bikeways, trains, busses, 5 minute city designs, or incentives to hire local. (Gawd the number of towns that everyone commutes out but has enough jobs)
