I used to work at an after-school program where we taught games to kids, which informs some of who I design games for. It’s a huge jump between games intended for parents to teach kids VS games intended for kids to teach kids. The different between them is communicated very poorly in the market.

This convo I had highlights the difference in what "respect your time" means in games. A lot of players want to trade time for in-game progress. It's purely transactional: 1 hour = 1 progress But I want to feel like my actions matter i.e. what I do with time creates progress, not time itself.

It is convenient sometimes when writing examples in game rules to give two imagined players male and female genders to make wording clearer. eg “She is attacking his city.” Here’s a free idea: include a non-binary player for a third set of pronouns to decrease confusion.
