Dear rulebook writers: When altering setup for specific player counts put this info UP FRONT in the normal setup instructions. Too many times have I set up a game wrong for 2 players only to have to change it all because the altered rules only show up when I'm done reading

My plays for October 2025

Two plays of Arthur Lacerda's 18 card microgame Pipoca yesterday. A tense duel that does not need a table. Struggle between improving your hand (flipping and turning your cards) and stopping your opponent. Brought home from #essenspiel. We found it fun and engaging.

Prototype copies for my latest game Quaternion Trick have been ordered from The Game Crafter. If they arrive in time I'll be bringing some to Essen this year. I only ordered six, and three of them have been earmarked! If you're lucky you might be able to get one if you bump into me!

A part of me dies every time I see a Kickstarter boardgame project openly admit to using AI… Then still get funded. Their answer to “do you have consent of the owners of these works” is laughable. There is no way to use LLMs without theft. It’s never valid to ship a game with this stolen work.

Game 2: 2 Die For by @cityhare.studio I’m a little sad I didn’t have my thermal printer to crank out a few of these. Also, I play with the optional harder variant of also limiting the middle four squares. I forgot how quick and enjoyable this one is. The Rabbit makes ‘em good!
