This is complete spitballing but I do remember 12ish as a time when I became really concerned with rules and order but also What The Future Holds for the first time (prob cause puberty chaos) so it makes sense that a vision of an orderly adulthood would appeal even if you realize it does suck

evo, like so many other events, started in an aracade and grew to the point it had to move to hotels/convention centers evo is an example of one of the multiple branches that a fighting game event can become; evo isn't THE fighting game community the FGC will be fine regardless of evo's future

The moment that Sony bought up EVO I knew it was going to just fall apart. Not because "Sony Bad" but because now EVO had entered the world of big corporate money. And nothing enters that world without being tainted. But damn, just because you expected it doesn't make it any easier.

The conservative movement is lying about basically every empirical "debate" of our time, from climate change to voter fraud to vaccines. Why is it so impossible for reactionary centrists to contemplate the possibility they're lying about trans healthcare too?

I can't watch those extremely choreographed WWDC sessions without imagining that I'm tasked with conducting one myself and asked to contort my image to that required by big A (big Apple). Maybe it's not at all what happens, but that's how I imagine it.

It’s cool how the first 10 or so years of hard rock invented so many image/vibe templates that rock/metal bands still use today - mysterious occultists (Zeppelin) - lost souls tormented by demons (Sabbath) - swaggering virtuosos (Deep Purple) - a bunch of stupid assholes who suck ass (Aerosmith)

It's always good to see software that isn't embarrassed of the fact that it's made and maintained by humans. Be proud to be vibrant and interesting and don't sterilize yourself to fit somebody else's tastes. Or – as this points out – use that to make the persnickety folks do some work themselves.

Just like no one believes they're impacted by advertising, no one with these usage patterns seems to believe that it could slowly shape their thinking. I am significantly less concerned about obvious hallucinatory errors (these are easy to catch) than I am about subtle drivers of intellectual bias
