with a pretty bleak courtroom story: a man accused of putting a hit on Greg Bovino withdrew his pretrial release motion today, after the possibility was raised that were he released, ICE might grab him. A court entry today confirms the release motion's withdrawl.

The government charged five people, including an intellectually disabled Black man, with impeding / assaulting / interfering with federal agents in connection with the 9/27 protest. With the dismissal of Briggs' case on Thursday, all five ended up tossed out of court without a conviction.

New: a 7th Circuit appellate panel has issued a stay on Dustrict Judge Sara Ellis' injunction order, which limits federal immigration agents' use of force in the North Illinois court district. The panel, consisting of two Trump appointees and a Reagan appointee, found the injunction "overbroad."

Remember the recent middle-of-the-night apartment building raid where children were dragged outside naked & zip-tied in the street while black & Latino residents were _sorted by race_ and piled into separate vans while their apartments were ransacked & robbed? i say all this not to be pessimistic. i know people are desperate for a win—and we should celebrate the wins, big and small. but bovino leaving chicago doesn't mean masked feds aren't gonna stop terrorizing our communities. they've been doing that for decades. we can't lose focus of that.
