Headed home from GDC after an amazing week with @amandafarough.ca, @kjartankennedy.com, @gregwrogers.bsky.social, and @haileyrogers.bsky.social. I’ve done a lot of GDCs, but none was like this. It was an unbelievable week for @causewaystudios.com.

I think I like support the most. Mainly because in other roles, you are playing against the game and it can feel more rinse and repeat. But as support, every battle is different because your party is always doing something crazy. You really have to stay on your toes.

I loooove being support. love it love it. on the rare occasions when I play age of empires with my friends I like to just prop up a peaceful farming village to send resource to my friends while they fight their little wars

Has to be Bloodborne. I was so terrible at it (TERRIBLE) but the world and aestheic was so my jam. I would periodically crack it open about once a year. Make barely any progress but just a little more each time. Getting into Elden Ring finally developed my skills enough to make Bloodborne playable 💖

Outer Wilds, Hades, Dark Souls, and Deus Ex (the original) yeah, I know

Caves of Qud. It took me a while to really get going with it, but now it's one of my favorite games. I was so bad at it. I still am, but I used to be too

Death's Door and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. I like the genres they are but I just couldn't get into them at all. Their combats just didn't feel good, no matter what I tried, and really just made me want to go play games that felt better.

Skyward Sword. I had a lot of issues with the sword mechanics and something about repeating locations and the not light tears mechanic in the like second half really bothered me??? I've also never been able to stick with DA Origins or BG3 to the end.

BG 3, and also Divinity Original Sin. I think Larian might just not be my thing 😂

You need to respond to this with one of your own if only because they're using a Sneak King screenshot as the hero image. This is unquestionably Minecraft for me. It's my favorite video game Lego set.

My go to here is Just Cause 2. I have a save sitting at something like 50% total map completion and, when the world gets too much, I just drop in and tool around blowing shit up with some good tunes or a podcast on in the background. I've tried 3 and 4 but neither capture the magic for some reason

i definitely rotate through them but my go-to right now is either master duel or mahjong soul. mahjong soul has been on constant rotation since last winter, and master duel is basically a second slot that rotates between my flavors of the month

I wouldn't say it's "guilty", but for me these last several years it's been Elden Ring. The combination of sweping travel and thoughtful exploration broken up by wild boss battles or hilarious encounters (like the big ball that hunts you) is just very satisfying. Do not ask me about the story.

FUSION!!! I love when mechanics combine! It's why I enjoy Deadlock so much (shooter + MOBA), and Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3 (match 3 + turn-based combat), and Cryptmaster (typing + TBC), and Hi-Fi Rush (rhythm + action combat), and Orcs Must Die (TD + shooter), and-

Any game that puts a functional computer inside the game, I am unreasonably happy. If I have to straight up type commands in a UNIX-like terminal, I'm in video game heaven.

I love when games have the option to zoom in on things at any given moment. I want to ogle and lose myself in the scenery. Let me admire all the little things in the background. I feel like Icarus, staring lovingly at a distant asset but never being able to fly close enough to fully appreciate it

I love when a game gives me multiple ways to approach and solve a situation, especially when it acknowledges that I've found a less-obvious one. The Dishonored games are incredible for this with different ways of approaching levels and also taking out targets, and I think I have to try Hitman soon.

I love to have a home base where all my companions hang out between missions, especially if I can upgrade it and do little mini missions / activities while I'm there. Double bonus points if it gives an opportunity for otherwise serious characters to show their goofier side for a while.

Very late to the party but my most anticipated game for 2026 is actually not that far away. Cairn‘s demo has gotten me really really excited to play the full game and I‘m so happy it releases so early in the year!

For me its probably has to be city builders (though cozy games come close). Something about the the multitasking, micro-manage-y gameplay loop really engages me. Highlights last year for me were Frostpunk 2, Ixion, and Against the Storm. #QuestionsWithCauseway

While I can't say I play EVERY title, I'm a huge fan of Survival Horror. In particular, I prefer when the genre gives you ways to fight back but requires you to manage resources and execute under pressure -- you can fight... just not everything 😏😱 #QuestionsWithCauseway #IndieGames

I've developed a deep love of stealth games (though I almost went with tactics games) that originated with Dishonored and my most recent entry was Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream. It's all a big puzzle that's very satisfying to solve, even more so if there are multiple solutions! #indiegames

Mine HAS to be Slay the Spire 2. The first one is probably one of my most played games and I honestly cannot wait for a brand new StS. I almost never jump into early access, but this will definitely be an exception.

Under $10 is a steal for this super engrossing haunted house yarn. I love when a narrative-focused game expresses story through mechanics and Joni does that beautifully. It also just plain gave me a lot to think about as a person working through way-back family stuff in therapy. Highly recommend!

I think my GOTY has to be Ghost of Yōtei. Tsushima was such an unexpected joy for me, and I couldn't wait for the sequel. Ezo is just a meditative delight to explore -- the game has one of the best art directions I've seen in games -- freeflow combat is visceral and fun. #QuestionswithCauseway

Tough choice for me this year, but Silent Hill F is my GOTY! I've always been a big fan of the SH series, and I think F was a breath of fresh air narratively and mechanically. I loved Hinako's journey every step of the way. Also, it is absolutely, horrifyingly, gorgeous. #QuestionswithCauseway

Not an easy choice, but my personal Game of the Year was Wanderstop (from @ivyroadgames.bsky.social). Almost immediately I felt so personally called out by Alta: her journey, her self-reliance, and her stubborn work ethic (😅), and the way Boro was written to bring levity with guidance was 🧑🏻‍🍳🤌🏻

I played some really great games in 2025! But let’s be real, my favourite game of 2025 isn’t a big game or a super duper popular game — it’s Tiny Bookshop!

Blue Prince, no question. It came barging into my life at an unfathomably low moment last year and shook me out of the dark place.
