There is no amount of failure or success that will warrant reasonable job security in this industry. The human cost of making games or frankly being a creative of any industry in this hellscape is obscene. More blood on the altar for shareholders. Love it.

Another week in the books, and another
#QuestionsWithCauseway
. This week, we want you to get to know our team through how they play with others. So we're asking... What role do you usually play when you're on a team? Tank, DPS, Support, Lone Wolf, or something else?
3

8
My specific role depends on the type of game (EQOA I was a tank, Halo I played objective and support) but it really comes back to whichever role lets my teammates shine brightest. I'll take the hits so you can do damage, or I'll handle the flag while you clear the way.

This is Dreamfall: Chapters from
@redthreadgames.bsky.social
for me, so much that it was once an answer to last week's question too. I backed it on Kickstarter and wanted so much to love it, but I think it released at a time when I wasn't in the right place for it. A couple years later though... 💚

I get it. You want to crack the “next big thing” in gaming technology, because that will make you money. Pro tip: Just find talented people and let them make games. Big games, little games, weird games, safe games. Let people cook.

I have tried so many times to start Control. It has so many things I love: the super weird and atmospheric vibes, the brutalist architecture, the Remedy flair. I haven't even got into any difficult fights or anything. Control: Resonant looks incredible though, maybe that reveal can be the spark?

In this week's
#QuestionsWithCauseway

This is wild, frustrating, and terrifying, but it's also measuring time instead of people. Roblox is directly targeted at the part of the population that has the most free time, who had to move their socialization full-time into digital space due to lockdowns, and it's designed to hoard their time.

This is deeply silly in some ways: I'm weirdly good at mental arithmetic. In high school, I entered a financial maths competition and advanced to state (where I made the top ten), but the eye-opening "oh no" moment was when I walked into the state round and everyone else had calculators...

Ten years ago today we shipped Firewatch. I say this every anniversary but it feels both like a lifetime ago and like it was yesterday. Thank you everyone who played it back then or played it today for the first time. Thank you to everyone on the team, I’m still so proud of what we made.

Mass Effect. The whole trilogy (yes they all count as one game). I’ve given up telling myself I’ll make different choices. I always fall into roughly the same rut, but dammit if it ain’t fun. I love this world and its characters (Citadel DLC, laughter and tears). What a ride.

I have a couple of answers for this. If I want something where I'm able to just dip in, play a little, and bounce out, I'm loading up Spin Rhythm XD. It's one of the most tactile rhythm games I've played. But I always rep my 80s roots... so Ghostbusters: The Video Game is always installed.

My guilty pleasure game is for when my brain just can't anymore, so Diablo 4 is the simple monster-killing, number-go-up, dopamine slot machine for me (although the Baby Trading Simulator might supplant it... we'll have to see). I don't even try to buildcraft, just go with the meta each season.

I know it’s annoying that I constantly ask people to sub, but subbing makes a huge difference.
@aftermath.site
has around 5,000 paying subs right now; most of us still work other jobs on the side. we have over 90k bluesky followers. if a fraction subscribed, it would literally change our lives

RE that RT.. it’s wild how steam reviews are still so damn important to getting visibility. If you play and like indie games, the most generous and helpful thing you can do is spend an hour popping positive reviews onto anything you like with <500 or so reviews.

My answer is a narrative feature / hook rather than one that's more active. The best thing a game can do to make me lean in (regardless of genre), is to make me say, "What the eff just happened? What is happening?!" Eternal Darkness, Inscryption, Spec Ops: The Line, Frog Fractions. GIVE ME WEIRD.

I love when a game gives me multiple ways to approach and solve a situation, especially when it acknowledges that I've found a less-obvious one. The Dishonored games are incredible for this with different ways of approaching levels and also taking out targets, and I think I have to try Hitman soon.

CEO of Manor Lords publisher Hooded Horse wants it to be 'a positive influence and a great company for 100 plus years' by fighting AI and treating devs ethically
The indie publisher keeps striking gold, but CEO Tim Bender is still "fundamentally unambitious", prizing stability and ethics over massive growth and profits.

I've developed a deep love of stealth games (though I almost went with tactics games) that originated with Dishonored and my most recent entry was Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream. It's all a big puzzle that's very satisfying to solve, even more so if there are multiple solutions!

Hard to pick a MOST anticipated game for this year, but I think I'm going with Resident Evil: Requiem. I've loved Survival Horror and RE in particular since I was young. Ever since RE7, the series has been on an absolute heater, so I'm (heart)pumped for this one.
