In a statement, Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca pivoted from speed cameras to violent crime, suggesting we should spend more time focussing on the latter. That’s illuminating. Vehicles obviously present the bigger statistical threat, especially to children. But we accept those injuries and deaths.

Here is where the fine system that either Finland or Sweden uses should come into play: Fines exist on a sliding scale based on your income. Higher the income, the higher your fine. Enough of this "it's a business expense" level of fines for these jerks.

Theownder is sent a "Notice of Intended prosecution" and has 14 days to identify to the Police who was driving at the time, they therefore can tell them who had the vehicle at the time, or accept the penalty themselves. Failing to identify the driver is a seperate offence they can be charged with.

Stop every campaign/effort telling people on bicycles/pedestrians and anyone outside the car how to be safe and divert ALL resources to remove every opportunity for drivers to be dangerous.

I wish every mayor & councillor in Ontario who doesn’t carry water for Ford would speak up like this. Ask yours what they think & why they aren’t talking, if they aren’t. This isn’t just Toronto’s stupid inane fight.

So just to be clear, all taxpayers will pay for traffic calming instead of fining the people that speed and leaving everyone else alone. We like this for a policy change? Are we so afraid of going after the actual rule breakers that we would rather put it on the back of everybody?
