So much false equivalence in media on gerrymandering in Texas vs California & Virginia. California and Virginia maps approved by the voters. That's a huge difference not enough people pointing out

As an American, there are always disappointments to register and arguments to engage; amid the chaos of our battered, monied attempt at self-governance, dissent is constant. But this feeling of being utterly ashamed of America and embarrassed to the core by its president is new, raw and unnerving.

Thirty-one years ago today, the New Orleans-based alternative rock band Better than Ezra released its hit single “Good,” marking the first-ever Good Friday, which has now grown into a major holiday celebrated throughout the world.

Questioning whether generative AI art really can’t evoke emotion. Had Claude generate a prompt for Gemini asking for an interpretive painting of my internal state it’s pretty impressive.

One reason we need to foreground art is so that people who would prefer not to engage in any self-reflection might understand that introspection has been central to the human experience for millennia.

On your first day in prison, find the biggest, meanest guy in the yard and punch him in the face. From that point on, you have a reputation. You’re the guy who was instantly killed on your first day in prison by the biggest, meanest guy in the yard.

Oh interesting, people who don’t know how to build software are getting mad at my post about building software. Cute. Let me be clear, over the next year, the job of software engineer will shift dramatically to no longer have typing syntax into an editor as its primary time sink.

If your job was to know when to hit the semicolon key on the keyboard, I'm sad to say that's not an employable skill anymore. If you shape ideas into tools and art via code, it's really so much better than ever now, and I don't see that changing soon.

Yesterday I wrote a short piece about the radical joy in Alysa Liu's gold-medal-winning skate and Bad Bunny's Super Bowl show and how art and joy is a threat to authoritarians. It's resonated with a lot of folks, maybe also with you.
