pinned post!
Should note to certain followers: I am not the nature author Robert Macfarlane. He’s British, talented, and successful. I’m Robert MacFarlane, some asshole from New Jersey who mostly talks about movies.

I’m going to be introducing a screening as part of the Nolan retrospective at Lightbox this summer - I’m showing the YouTube clip of Nolan standing behind Brittany Murphy rapping along to Eminem performing “Without Me” at the 2002 MTV Movie Awards, come through!

Malcolm Tucker: “Make no fucking mistake, I will turn your furry hide into my personal fireside rug if you don’t get us those parliament votes, you cheeky Winnie the Pooh forgery!” Paddington: “You sure you don’t want a sandwich then?”

Some actors can do both (honestly the best voice performance from this decade was Wagner Moura), some clearly can’t (almost every actor in the Mario movies). I would kill to hear Laura Bailey or Zeno Robinson headline one of these films one day, though.

Still the most aggravating Oscar snub we’ve had this decade. There was no excuse except laziness on the voters’ part.

What's great about Baywatch is they don't even know how to spell their character's names.

Saw Obsession. I agree with the Navarette praise, but I think Joshnston deserves just as much for so willingly playing Bear as spinelessly amoral as Jerry Lundegaard from Fargo.

Watching The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. Found out the actress who plays Mary was a regular voice on The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy.

Already seeing people pushing for Inde Navarrette to get an Oscar nomination for Obsession. This early in the year, it’s a longshot, but the Academy’s sudden embrace of horror performances the last two years is definitely giving me pause in calling it fantasy.

I watched the first four seasons of My Hero Academia a few years ago. I liked it well enough, but would I like the back half? Should be noted, I’m an avowed Bakugo hater.

What’s fun about both Fetterman and Bill Maher is that they vacillate between two modes: one of them is finding war and death and mockery and humiliation hilarious and the other mode is them going “why are you so cruel to me? Why can you not find decency in your heart towards me?”

I think some of James Cameron's legal problems have been bullshit (I'm looking at you, Harlan), but this lawsuit from Q'orianka Kilcher has some merit. It goes past having a mood board or a look book with someone's face in it. He has spent years saying he used her as his primary inspiration.

It is 2010. Nintendo announces that the next Starfox game will be a remake of Starfox 64. It is 2015. Nintendo announces a “new” Starfox game (but it was in fact a remake of Starfox 64). It is 2026. Nintendo announces that the next Starfox game will be a remake of Starfox 64.

Watching the episode of Pinky and the Brain where they parody The Third Man. Their version of the ferris wheel speech is so, so brilliant.

8/10 as a score = "mediocre, and disappointing in its mundanity. an utter let down that is only made worse by the potential it held. worth less than trash." 4/5 as a score = "a masterpiece left imperfect. a raw glimpse into a visionary mind. a cult classic worth dissecting for its humanity."
