Making music when you're an old-head is kind of amazing. You're no longer insecure about keeping up with what's "cool." You know what kind of song you can write and you just have to listen to your gut. Makes you appreciate the old-timers doubling down on their muse.

We're picking our five favourite albums of the year! Our first is Errunhrd's 'Everything I've Ever Known'. Throughout its nine tracks, it articulates a darkness, a swelling of clouds in the distance through a balance of stark guitar tracks and pulsing electronica. Favourite song: 'Waiting'.

I also think about tuned vocals and extreme editing. I still love new music but there's an unfiltered joy I feel when I hear Motown from the 60's. It's just pure performance. Some of the best players in town crammed in a room giving it their all. The take could be a master. So exhilarating.

There was a time when I was seeing plays in London for £10 a seat. I was seeing people like Jude Law, Judi Dench, David Tennant, Daniel Radcliffe and Catherine Tate in starring roles.
