The most effective form of GOTV is door-to-door canvassing, with effect sizes in the range of 3-5%. That's for undecideds/people leaning toward your party. All other forms of GOTV have smaller (!!!) effect sizes. It's next to impossible to convince someone who likes the other party to vote for you.

To this I'd add that Carney isn't just responding to Trump; he's showing the next US president -- Democratic or Republican -- that Canada, or at least Carney's Canada, has no red lines, no principles worth defending, and no guts for a real fight if push comes to shove (and it will).

The thing I will remember most about 2025 is that Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and Russell Vought took live-saving medicine and food away from hundreds of thousands of sick and starving children, and this did not change the way the media and society in general regarded them in any significant way.

I just taught my lecture course on mid-20th c US history, which starts with Harding and concludes with Nixon. For the first time, I had to pause and stress that those scandals were actually shocking at the time and, whatās more, that Americans actually demanded people be held accountable.
