When a new programmer's tool for coding is a big press button, receive slop, they're deliberately deskilling their ability to write maintainable code. They're outsourcing it to a machine that doesn't know stuff.

Think about refactoring. Refactoring code is taking code, and changing *only* how it pieces together. It does the same thing, but it now does it with such as more reuseable parts, less hardcoding, etc. It does the same thing as before, but it is now more maintainable. Easier to modify later.

Few have contributed as much to our understanding of the genre as Alexandra Heller-Nicholas. This is a reminder that even the most accomplished people can be struggling in ways we don't know about - Alex needs a boost if you can spare a little kindness.
